Norelco 7825XL Quadra Action System Electric Shaver/Refurbished
Rating: 4 (out of 5)
Summary: great shave; do not like the power switch
Comments: The 7825XL, 7845XL, 7865XL and 7885XL models are all basically the same razor, differing only in the way they display battery/charging status (anywhere from 1 LED to a complete tiny LCD display). The shaving peformance is fine for me -- not as close as a wet shave however that's a great thing for me personally because the closeness of wet shaves makes my face break out. E 3-7 years I purchase a new Norelco and they get incrementally better each time.

I am writing to warn about1feature. E shaver I'd had up to this1had a physical slider switch to turn it on and off. This models has a push howeverton. This means you can not tell BY TOUCH whether it's on or off. This is critical for me because I usually shave in the car (sitting in traffic) with the stereo blaring and I can not hear the shaver (especially since the newer models are pretty quiet). I turn it on and off a lot as traffic conditions change.

Further, when the battery is low, my previous shavers would just run slower and slower until they came to a gradual stop. This1slows slightly (imperceptably to me, really) and then just "falls off the cliff" and stops cold. So you do not get any warning really that it's about to run out -- if I knew it was running down, then I'd shave a lot quicker!!

And this is where the tactile power switch feedback is important: if the battery's totally drained, however I am not done yet, I'll leave it off for a minute and then turn it on for 5-10 seconds of shaving before it dies again. With the push-howeverton power control this is really confusing because you are never really sure what's on and off. It turns out the the power howeverton is like a pulse that gets sent to an internal microcontroller (I am guessing), so after it's been off for a while the power "position" doesn't matter, it's really off. You just push to reboot the thing.

So, my 7825XL was robbed out of my car last night and I am purchaseing another1of these, so I guess that's an endorsement. however I am bumping up to the next higher model with better battery status indication ...

Summary: pleased with my new Norelco 7825
Comments: Just purchased this shaver after my previous 10-year old Norelco gave up the ghost. It is definitely an improvement. It's lighter weight, better grip, muuuuuch quieter, retains trimmed hair better, and is easier to clean. It does a somewhat better job shaving. As with all electrics, you have to go over the same area a few times and in different directions, however this razor requires less of that. Overall, a great shave.

Summary: Works Great
Comments: The shaver does a great job at shaving and feels son nice on my skin. I do not have like a full grown beard or anything, however what i do have (wiskers) it cuts it right off, and makes it short enough for me. The shaver does not get a "against the grain shave" like with old fashoned razors. The battery life is amazing. So far, the inital 4 hour charge has lasted it 3 weeks. All the hairs are collected beneth the razor in a nice compartment and washable under the tap (if needed).1downside: it endorses that you change the 3 Heads, once a year. There 40 dollars from Norelco. (check your local listings). Over all, The portability is nice and does a great job for My wiskers.

Summary: Did not shave close for me
Comments: This unit is well designed, quiet; feels great in the hand and super-easy to clean. The shave was comfortable and did not irritate my face. The price is quite reasonable. Unfortunately it did not shave close enough for me. If I made many passes I could get a close shave however would find that by 4pm I would need to shave again(not that my beard is so heavy). Like all electrics I have used it does a sub-par job under the chin and on the neck. I have decided to send it back and go back to my Braun. Right now I have used the Norelco and then finished with the Braun, which even with year-old blades is much closer and just as quick.

This is electric shaver number5for me (4 purchased thru Amazon). I started ~15 years ago with a norelco 5xxx series, and was satified for a few years. Despite changing the blades (perhaps my beard got tougher)I became displeased with the shave. I switched to a Braun 5000 series which was noticably closer with the exception of the neck which required many passes to shave adequately.

The Braun lost it's edge after about a year or two, and I decided to try1of the Panasonic ultra-high speed, wet-dry units (10,000)strokes/min. I got a great deal on a close-out unit. I liked the build and the wet-dry feature, and the ease of cleaning, however I found that this shaver irritated my skin. I went back to the braun, and later upgraded to a Braun 7526, which I purchased refurbished without the cleaning unit. It does a superior job and next time I upgrade I may purchase the unit with the cleaner. It needs new blades yearly for best results, and it too doesn't do a great job with on my neck; however ething else is excellent.

Summary: Face-hugging shave
Comments: The Norelco 7825XL Quadra Shaver with floating heads hugs my face for the closest shave I have ever had. A vast improvement over the lower-end Norelco model I previously had. I love the ease of cleaning: you can rinse the heads with water.
