Semi Truck Color History
Rating: 4 (out of 5)
Summary: Different types of truck driving jobs
Comments: This book is a little different than almost all. It has great photos, however more than anything what it has to offer is a chapter on each sort of truck driving job there is. I was'nt aware of how different each type of truck driving can be. It really breaks it down, and if you are considering driving a big rig, you need to read this book. It has all about freight hauling, refers, hay hauling, petroleum, want to drive a truck full of gas?, meat, lumber, livestock hauling, logging, and the bed bug haulers. It really is set up in a orderly and easy to understand fashion. informative, book on the differnet types of trucking both historically and today.
Rating: 5 (out of 5)
Summary: 128 pages of solid gold
Comments: An excellent pictorial grab of American trucking history. The timeline of U.S. trucking history takes up5pages of text and from there on the pictorial splendor begins, with chapters dedicated to the various types of commodity haulers, catagory by catagory... furniture removals, produce, hay, livestock, etc.

Excellent truck photos abound, mainly classics from the 1950's to 80's, predominantly color and nicely blended with older black and white snapshots. This book pays homage to the smaller operators and fleets and the roles that they played in shaping transport of today.

There is also a pictorial chapter dedicated to legendary trucks and legendary drivers, such as B C Fry and his Diamond T which "generally ran at night, at speeds in3digits" in the sixties and seventies. If that doesn't do it for you, how about Arnold Guril, who over forty years, owned4Kenworths including the pictured 1972 V12 Detroit extended hood Kenworth?
Peterbilt fans aren't left out either with Bill Sign's 800(?) h.p V8 3408 Cat.

The book makes no attempt to cover e type, make or model of American truck or trailer, though it has the odd unexpected bonus such as a Corbitt, and a couple of Mexican marques for added flavour.

In the same league as Earl Johnston's work and Stan Holtzman's other books.... hard to beat!!
