Rating: 3 (out of 5) Summary: More than meets the ear Comments: I too have a story, loud howls, inthe distance, hair raising screams, exit human. The book is OK, almost all are half old crap, same old stories, same agendas. I did make sure my door was locked for awhile, like it would stop one, like NOT. I am still going into the North California, temperate rainforest, see if I can get1down for coffee and doughnuts,

Rating: 4 (out of 5) Summary: A great an Argument for the Advocates Comments: Dr. Meldrum makes an excellent case for the existence of Bigfoot. Although I ultimately disagree with his conclusions, he presents his facts in a straightforward manner, without hype or exaggeration. His basic argument is that there is too much evidence, with too much detail, for it to all be fake. And only1piece of it needs to be genuine in order for the animal to exist. Dr. Meldrum is the only person I am aware of that is currently using scientific methodology to investigate the mystery of Bigfoot, and his book relates that science in a well-made manner. You will get a little glassy-eyed reading endlessly about dermal ridges, mid-tarsal breaks and the like, however overall it's a great read. Read this book together with "Bigfoot Exposed" by Dr. David Daegling and you will have the closest thing to an academic debate on the subject as you can get. Dr. Daegling takes the opposing point of view, and I felt that his argument was the almost all persuasive. After all, we still do not have a body, DNA, or even a tooth or two.
Dr. Meldrum has put together a readable, entertaining book on an controversial subject. Anyone who already believes in Bigfoot will find lots in here to like, and those that do not will find an interesting counterpoint to their opinions. |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: SASQUATCH-SCIENCE MEETS LEGEND Comments: Although I have not yet finished the book, it is informative and entertaining. A lot of books based on scientific research are written dry, humorless, and like basic textbooks. Dr. Meldrum gives a passionate rendition of his interests supported by scientific fact. I lead a busy life however I make time to read this book. I'd seen programs with Dr. Meldrum before and was impressed by his knowledge and that he has made his decisions in research based on facts and not just speculation. I am also impressed by the seller who sent me a used book that does not appear used at all. It appears like a brand new book right off the retail shelf. No bent pages, no underlining, no notes in the margin. Pristine condition. I would purchase books again from this seller. Deli time was excellent as was the price. Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science

Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: The Scientific Last Word... Comments: ...until the hairy guy is confirmed, that is.
If you have no "bigfoot books," and want to expand the angle of your regard somewhat, I would start with this one. Toss in Alley's "Raincoast Sasquatch" for incredible depth on a specific geographic area. Add Gordon's "Field Guide to the Sasquatch" because, heck, this should be in field guides, and here's one. To top it all off, Pyle's "Where Bigfoot Walks" for a literary angle by a technically-qualified commentator.
If you want to go on from there, and you should, excellent. however start here. Meldrum handles e aspect of the evidence with impressive breadth and depth; you see that big footprints are far from all there is. (And you see why some think the footprints are enough, all by themselves.) This is a scientist looking at it with a scientist's eye, and exposing "bigfoot skeptics" for what they are. (Which, for1thing, is far from skeptical. They're true believers, in what they want to believe.)
This took guts to write; that it got published, and that he's still tenured at his university, offers hope to those of us who would like to see science get off its duff and, you know, explore the world a bit. A microscope is nice, however carry binoculars and curiosity about what you do not know, too. |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: Intelligent summary of current research Comments: Dr. Meldrum's book is a great synopsis of the current state of Sasquatch research. His approach is detailed, careful, and comprehensive. Although I am already somewhat familiar with the subject, the book presented enough facts that were new to me to keep my full attention.
Reading this book left me with the impression that this subject is starting to move from being a target of general ridicule to being recognized as deserving serious attention. I endorse this book to anyone that is intelligent and curious enough to want to understand the reasons for that change. Dr. Meldrum deserves much of the credit for that shift.
Several of the chapters are for an educated audience, or for those that aren't afraid of new vocabulary and topics. For example, there is a chapter on statistics, and the chapters on assumed foot morphology, dermatoglyphs, and DNA analysis use plenty of technical terms. I endorse that you dive right in. They are the best chapters in the book. Dr. Meldrum's background in science is what sets this book apart.
Thank you, Dr. Meldrum, for leading out in this area of research and for providing this book. |
