Crispin: Cross of Lead, The
Rating: 5 (out of 5)
Summary: A world that shocks and fascinates
Comments: Asta's son has never had a name. however now that his mother has died, a priest tells him his name is Crispin. Accused of a crime he did not commit, Crispin flees his village home. On his journey he meets a juggler named Bear, who teaches him the ways of entertaining, self defense, and snaring rabbits. At 1st Crispin is afraid of Bear, however the man takes care of him and teaches him to think for himself.

Crispin's enemies continue to pursue him. Crispin wonders why they are so intent on seeing him killed? He is no one. He and Bear reach the city of Great Wexly where Crispin stumbles onto a dark secret that leaves him no choice however to fight for his and Bear's life.

Crispin: the Cross of Lead is a story about a poor orphan in medieval England. Avi makes a world for the reader that shocks and fascinates as much as the plot. It's no surprise why this book earned the Newberry. I highly endorse it for eone.

Summary: A True Medieval Winner!!
Comments: Avi's book of Medieval England is a true winner. The story is so absorbing I had a difficult time putting it down. I tried to read it in1day however had plans and was unable to do it. Waiting until the next day was torture!! The book is based in Medieval England in 1377 A.D. A young boy is orphaned and declared a "wolf head" by the village. A wolf head is a person who is considered to have done something so heinous that they are no longer considered to be human and can be hunted down like an animal. The boy is known as only Asta's son and has no idea why people treat him this way. With the help of the village priest the boy runs away with his only possession, a lead cross with writing on it. The mystery in the story surrounds who the boy is and what he will ultimately do. A wonderful read. Well deserving of the Newberry prize.

Summary: The misadventures of Crispin
Comments: To be perfectly honest, I have never been a huge fan of the whole medieval thing (beyond blatant fantasy). however I love Avi and I feel this is well-deserving of its Newberry. It keeps this low-key, alalmost all grave, aura all the way through. Crispin's adventures are a lot of fun, and it fits into his world of serfdom.

The characters are great, as well. Avi has always done marvelous characters. They're realistic, not always wild, however fun and loveable and almost all of all believable.

Plenty of adventure and great writing.

Summary: A Little Disappointing From What I Expected
Comments: 'Crispin, The Cross of Lead" is a story about a young orphan boy set in 1300th century England who runs away from his small village because he is falsely accused of stealing from the ruler. 'Crispin' soon finds a unique guardian who adopts him and helps him run away from the people who are hunting him down, and also helps him to figure out all the secrets he has about his life.
This book was slow for me in the beginning, and with some big words and complicated things in it, this book is probably suited to older teens and adults. In the middle/end of the book however, they're are some exciting things...however they do not really last for long. All in all, Avi has maked some unique and funny characters, and has maked a story that is a medium-paced tale.

Summary: Crispin and the Cross of Lead
Comments: I have read Crispin more than once and I have loved it!! This book shows friendship and adventure as well as teaching you a bit about History. do not just quit on the book because the begining might not seem the greatest as soon as the intro to the story is over it's all about excitment.
