Product Reviews: Linksys EG1032 Instant Gigabit Desktop Network Adapter |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: 10/100 versus Gigabit Protection Comments: Purchased card and installed drivers supplied on CD with product. Had problem with Ethernet LAN wiring that runs through my surge protection device APC BX1500LCD (which only supports 10/100 pass-through speed). Solution was to have Ethernet bypass APC BX1500LCD to allow Gigabit LAN speed. Purchasing an APC PNET1GB device to add RJ-45 protection back for PC. Keep this in mind when connecting you PC to switch / router if you are not getting Gigabit LAN after installing card and drivers from CD. |
Rating: 3 (out of 5) Summary: Might not make sense on older PC Comments: I am upgrading my home network to gigabit wired, N wireless. I have a Linksys 610N as the router/switch, a Netgear GS605 as a local switch to connect an older pc and a work laptop with a gigabit ethernet port. I installed this card (EG1032) in the older PC and installed the driver. Going forward I had much slower boot times, and the CPU pegged at 100% all of the time. Yes, I did have network connectivity, however the PC was alalmost all impossible to use. I put the old etherquick card back in, and the PC went back to normal.
I want to emphasize that that the old PC is slow (P3) however is fully up to date with XP Pro SP3. My guess is that this card puts1hell of a load on the CPU that just isn't noticed on quicker processors. It may well be fine for newer desktops that due to cheapskate manufacturers still come with etherquick connections. |
Rating: 3 (out of 5) Summary: Where is the NDIS driver? Comments: Excellent product. Installs and performs flawlessly. however they must have decided that no1uses or needs NDIS drivers anymore, as there is none available. A fact that makes the card useless to anyone who uses DOS based disk imaging programs over a network. And the DOS based utilities are still by far the best, so why isn't this driver included? The 10/100 cards had them!! |
Rating: 1 (out of 5) Summary: Not gig Comments: I have a Vista PC, added an EG1032, using a SD2005 switch and a Western Digital gig-enabled NAS. I am only getting 4.4MB throughput. Linksys support is not helpful. This card is going back. |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: Performs with Speed Comments: As the description says, this network adapter flies when surfing the net. Easy to install and fits nicely into my box. A |
