Bissell 1425B Little Green Proheat Turbo Carpet Cleaner |

Summary: Mine Leaks
Comments: I have had this product for a few years now, and went to use it to spot clean sweet potato out of the rug (2 year old ;) ). Well, I got it cleaned up and then looked at the unit, and saw a huge amount of filthy water pooling into the rug from around the base of the unit. Clearly it was leaking. Never had this problem before so a search of the symptoms on the internet brought me here to amazon where I see that these indeed have this problem. Mine suddenly started doing it after a few years. Personally I expect a more durable product for the money however I did get a few years out of it. It hasn't really been as effective as I would like either at removing pet stains. We can still see them after it dries on our berber carpet. I expected more out of this product, sorry Bissell. |

Summary: Doesn't clean, just dampens the rug
Comments: I was disappointed with this product. Given some of the rave reviews, I was expecting at least decent results. I found that it just dampened my rug. The machine is just strong enough to show the water splashing about inside the nozzle head, however it's not strong enough to actually fully suck it out of the rug and into the canister. It just doesn't have enough power to clean the rug effectively. The result is that you've spent $90 on a machine that leaves you with a wet and dirty rug. you are better off taking it to the dry cleaner, renting1of those professional cleaning machines, or spending a couple of dollars on a spray cleaner that you let dry and then vacuum up with your regular vacuum. |

Summary: Perfect for a Manhattan apartment!!
Comments: Before purchaseing the Little Green, I constantly borrowed my friend's Bissell Turbo Proheat Upright cleaner. The upright is awesome for big areas, however takes up alot of room. This Little Green is just as great with regard to suction, it doesn't leave the carpet any wetter than the big machine. It IS only great for small areas and stairs though. Doing stairs with the upright was laborious. This thing is pretty light and portable. It's a it more tiring to use, however it's ething I wanted. |

Summary: How Did I Live Before You?
Comments: If you have pets, parties, and/or children you need1of these guys!! quick and easy to use. I have had mine several years (mine is older and doesn't have the heated option WHICH IS A BIG BONUS, my mother-in-law's does) and have used it time and time again with no problems.
I add about a tablespoon of Oxyclean to the water/cleaning solution and it takes up red wine, strawberry soda, mud, pet messes, & etc like nothing else...you name it I have cleaned it up with this!!
This works better than the hand held ones because you do not have to hold the entire thing while using it since it has ample hose and power cord length. |

Summary: Are the negative reviews coming from Dirt Devil employees?
Comments: I got a Bissell Little Green with both the heat and the turbo brush options.
I got this item on Freecycle, so you can be sure it's seen a lot of use.
When I 1st hooked it up and filled up the cleaner tank, all that happened was cleaner running out the bottom of the unit. (I did mention it was free, right?) I took off the bottom and saw that a plastic nipple had broken, so I super-glued it.
I refilled the cleaner tank and set about cleaning the grimy muck that passes for carpet in this place.
Imagine you rented a house to people who never swept, never mopped, never vacuumed, and certainly never cleaned a carpet. Imagine they lived in your house for6years.
That's the carpet I had to clean. And sure, I should have called professionals, or rented a Rug Doctor, however I wanted to see what the Green Machine could do.
So I'll hit some points I saw in negative reviews when I was browsing here earlier:
HEATER - Yes, it heats the water. Yes, it gets hot. Hot enough to burn your hand. The wather is far hotter than any water I have ever gotten to come out of a Rug Doctor.
Turbo Brush - This thing clearly suffers from being given the wrong name. The brush does not spin quick, so I can see why people might balk at calling it a Turbo Brush. I am pretty sure, however, that they mean you can use it to turbo-charge your cleaning power. With the brush in spin-mode, it does about10times the work of a non-rotating brush (you know the1with the plastic handle you keep under the sink near your can of Resolve...). When you use the spinning brush in combination with the spray, this thing demolishes the toughest ground-in crap I have ever seen in a carpet. I found the Turbo Brush to be just the tool for scrubbing out the gunk and crust that was in this carpet.
Regular Brush/Sprayer - While the Turbo Brush was great for scrubbing, I preferred the smaller brush/sprayer for both applying and sucking up cleaner. The sprayer has a wider pattern (something someone complained about in another review... I have no idea what they're thinking.) and it also sucks up more water than the Turbo does. Not only that, however the design of it gets some of the stickier mess out of the carpet pile as you rub it back and forth sucking up water.
This machine is clearly designed for handling smaller jobs - drink spills, muddy footprints, and when your 2 yr. old poops on the floor. Since I was cleaning a much bigger area, I think it's entirely fair that my back hurts and I used an entire bottle of Little Green cleaner to do about 50 sq. ft. of carpet. The cleaner tank holds enough fluid to do about a 4 ft. by 4 ft. square before you have to refill. You can do that3times before you have to empty it.
The carpet in this dump actually appears presentable now. I do not think anything I type here can fully describe the difference between how it looked before and how it appears now. I was pretty sure the only option was to replace the carpet. however now it can stay.
If that's a how a beat-to-death, broken, Freecycled machine works, I am sure a brand-new1would be even better. |
