Product Reviews: JET 708626CK DC-1100CK 1-1/2-Horsepower 1,100 CFM Canister Dust Collector, 115/230-Volt 1-Phase |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: A suggestion for using the Jet dust collector Comments: I have owned2of these collectors (had to sell1before a cross-country move) and both were exceptional at collecting fine dust from my drum sander and other machines. I work in a garage and have tried several ways of running hoses however they always ended up in the way or I needed to move machines to accommodate large work pieces. It finally occurred to me that I really only needed to hook up1machine at a time. Enter Rockler Woodworking: They have a 21' () flexible, expandable hose and machine fittings that connect quickly without tools. These products are a bit pricey however cheaper than running multiple hoses and gates. You can also use the hose with Rockler's handpiece and bench/floor brush as a huge shop vacuum. |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: Excellen unit for small shop Comments: I have had this for about6months now, and I am pleased. I have it set up in the corner of my 12' x 20' shop and I use it as a stationary collector with ducting running to the tools. I have a 4" flex hose coming off of1of the ports (the other port is capped closed), and the flex hose runs about2feet to a metal 4" wye fitting, from there,24" metal lines branch off. Once goes about 16 feet up, over and down to my miter saw. The other goes about 18 feet up, over and down to another wye;1end goes to my table saw and the other is an open port that is used for various other tools. The ends of all the runs of duct have metal JDS automated switch blast gates. From the blast gates, there is 4" flex hose running to each machine, about 5-6' of flex hose at each machine. With this configuration, I get great suction at each of the tools (with just1blast gate open). This machine doesn't have ample enough suction, in my opinion, to run2machines/branches at once off of it. however for its size, design and price, it is a great machine for1tool at a time, assuming you do not have a tremendously long run of duct/hose.
Pros: The filter canister is great, the machine is relatively quiet, the suction is plenty for1tool and the price is great.
Cons: The casters are small and the3uprights that hold the canister up aren't rigid at all. When you go to move the machine around, there is a lot of wobble and sway of those3uprights. Not to the point that I feel the thing is going to collapse, however enough that I am surprised they did not engineer it to be sturdier.
For an impeller model canister, I would definitely endorse this, especially for the price. I wouldn't put any impeller in the same class as a cyclone, however for half the price, if not much less, you can not really compare the two. As far as impellers go, this is awesome. |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: happy with the quality Comments: I have purchased a fair amount of Jet equipment recently, all of it for the same reason - value. Having purchased Jet equipment years ago as well as more recently, I was fully-prepared to spend more on better equipment, however actually found that Jet's prices have dropped and quality has improved!! My new Jet Deluxe tablesaw, for example, is better-designed, better-built and finished, and was cheaper than the Jet saw I purchased nearly 20 years ago!!
When shopping for dust collectors, Jet did not even initially occur to me. Rather, I was looking at ething from Air Handling at the high end, to Grizzly at the low end. What I found was that Jet was pricing their DC's, like much of the rest of the line, attractively spec'd and low-priced. As I also found it at a steep sale discount, I snapped it up.
I am happy with this dust collector. 1100 CFM is a lot to attach to a single machine through a 10' hose!! (which is exactly how I use it - attached to1machine at a time) The only thing I might suggest that Jet change is to incorporate larger & better casters, and stiffen up the supports. This collector is meant to be rolled from machine to machine, and a more rigidity built into the design would improve it with minimal cost.
I find it interesting to read the differing opinions on this dust collector's noise level. I find it tolerable and, like another reviewer, often leave it running while I am between machining tasks.
Final note - do not get too aggressive with the flappers. Some filter cake build-up will substantially improve the filtration without overly affecting the flow. Once around gently when you change bags should be more than enough. Less often if you are primarily collecting chips and not sawdust. |
Rating: 4 (out of 5) Summary: Dust collector Comments: This dust collector appears to be a useful part of my home work shop. It is quite noisy however sucks well. The installation of the bottom plastic collection bag is quite a struggle. Jet should look at a redesign to simplify that part. Otherwise the collector is great |
Rating: 4 (out of 5) Summary: A great Dust Collecting System Comments: A do not know why I waited so long to put a dust collection system into my garage shop, however I am glad I did, and the Jet DC1100CK is a perfect system for me. I can not beleive how quiet it is when running, and the suction power that it generates. It pulls some of my smaller scroll saw pieces 6 inches off the work bench. The setup was easy, took about 1 hour. Directions and diagrams were helpful. I am not1to usually read the directions, thus the diagrams were really the almost all helpful. It was put into use alalmost all immediately with my drum sander and router. did not take too long for the canister to fill up, and it really wasn't too bad to remove. However, I have since purchased a W1049 Dust Collection Separator, which separators the larger dust particles into a garbage can, which in turn, is easy to empty.
I find myself leaving the machine on, because it is so quiet. I have a setup with blast gates at each machine, so it is just a matter of opening and closing each blast gate as I work on various operations and projects.
I really wanted a powerful machine, however did not want to special wire my garage with a 230 volt system. This DC works just fine on the 115 volt system. I have it plugged into a 20 amp circuit, with the overhead lights, and have not had1blown fuse.
Of all the research I did, the Delta, Jet, Ridgid and PSI, they all had about the same features and the same price, I am glad I purchased the Jet system.
