Netgear GS108 ProSafe 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Desktop Switch
Rating: 4 (out of 5)
Summary: Outstanding speed
Comments: Outstanding speed, however more suited for under desk or wall-mount than on top of your desk because the lights are on the same side as the cables. In other words, to see the lights, you will need to have the cables staring you in the face as opposed to being hidden on the back of the unit and flowing off the desk.

Summary: Dead after 1 year
Comments: I purchased this 1 year ago and slowly1port after another started going dead after about 6 months of use. Now all the ports are dead and the switch seems to be in a continuous reboot mode. This is my 1st Netgear switch and I am not sure I would purchase another.

Summary: Great product while it works
Comments: purchased 2 of these and they both worked for a day. 2nd day1started getting flakey. Works for about 3 minutes after power cycling. I am not a happy camper. These felt much heftier than my previous DLink 10/100 switches. Not much great if they do not work. I am going to return1under warranty and hopefully the new1works. I need 3 more however I will not purchase any more Netgear products until I get more satisfaction. purchase with caution!!

Summary: 17 months and "The Blinking Lights of Death"
Comments: As the IT manager for a medium-sized business, I really like how solid these switches feel, however I will not be using them again. I used the switches in my home network, to help cut down on wiring back to the core switch. The Netgear GS108 failed after 17 months with the well documented "Blinking Lights of Death" malfunction, caused by failing capacitors. Unfortunately, I have several more that were purchased during the same time frame.

I endorse against purchasing this make and model of switch.

Summary: Capacitor Fix for Faulty Netgear GS108
Comments: Anyone who has1of these Netgear switches that died after a year or2should Google "Netgear GS108 capacitor". If you are handy with a soldering iron, you can quickly fix the problem yourself for just a few dollars by replacing2blown capacitors.

(This is not intended as an excuse for Netgear shipping such shoddy product, nor is it intended to encourage more people to purchase the GS108. I merely wanted to help inform people who already own this product that they can revive dead units.)
