Comments: The router has a great network range. and the signal strength is strong. I have had no problems whatsoever using it till now. Except a minor glitch that it failed to install properly and i was not able to set-up a secure wi-fi network. |

Summary: WRT54G Review
Comments: When I 1st received the router I couldn't get it to work no matter what I tried. After a few days of fiddling around I finally gave in and called customer service. The experiece was great. Customer service took me step by step and had ething running in about 15 minutes. Apparently there was an issue with my modem. Regardless, the WRT54G works as advertised and I have great signal in the house. Great product so far. |

Summary: Linksys Wireless Router - Plug and Play
Comments: straight forward set-up of the unit. No installation CD required (although it prompted to run it 1st). Easy disabling of wireless access of the unit's set-up. Last in chain of cable modem, digital voice modem and wireless router, however it all reboots after power failures and glitches without intervention. |

Summary: User Friendliness - circa 1985
Comments: If you enjoyed computing in the days of the Commodore 64, and hey, who did not, then this is the router for you!!
1st the boring stuff: the router is acceptable in terms of performance, though in an older house you will have trouble getting a signal20-five feet away because of the thicker walls.
The real fun comes in setting up, or in my case re-setting up the modem. Let the adventures in user friendliness begin!! Check out this link for a preview of what you have in store:

None of this graphical user interface nonsense for Linksys, we're back in the glory days of8hour installs (Pool of Radiance, anyone?), physical copy protection and "press play on tape" if you forgot to tell the computer that your program was on the floppy drive not teh tape player.
Searching for the Router takes a full minute. The thing is directly connected to the computer and it takes a minute to find. "Make sure the internet light is blinking", great strategy, thanks Napoleon!! Linksys has a great way of helping you when your router cannot find the internet, you just chat online with1of their techs. I'll let you know how that turns out. I am 36th in line after a mere 15 minute wait.
Go ahead, purchase this router, eone else does. however if you get it working, never ever touch anything ever again. Ever. Unless you want to experience the 1980s again. Excuse me while I press "play on tape". |
