Product Reviews: Lodge Logic 12-Inch Iron Cover |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: Be still my beating heart!! Comments: I had been looking for a lid for my cast iron fry pan and skillet forever before i chanced upon this beauty. It's a little expensive, however i figured it's a1time purchase and a great price to pay for even cooking. I am still not sure why it's priced higher than the fry pan and the skillet though. It's also a wee bit difficult to clean until1gets the hang of it. however nothing matches the beauty and efficiency of cast iron cookware. It's perfectly safe and lasts forever with careful use. Food cooked in cast iron cookware tastes better(although you can not say the same about stainless steel which is equally safe to use and sturdier). I am always on the lookout for old, used pieces in garage and estate sales. I'd totally endorse this product. |
Rating: 4 (out of 5) Summary: Lid is more expensive then the frying pan Comments: 1st of all let me say that I only use cast iron and stainless steel cookware. I do not use aluminum (brain damage) or non-stick (carcinogenic) cookware ever. Cast iron cookware takes years to season because it has to smooth out from use and the deposit of microscopic carbon molecules. Because of that pre-seasoning is kind of useless. I think e cook should have 3 pieces of cast iron: A grill pan, a dutch oven and a frying pan. If you can not cook it in1of those, it probably can not be cooked.
As far as the lid goes; it fits tightly on the Lodge Logic 12" frying pan. I wouldn't say it's an essential item (especially if you have a dutch oven) however it's nice to have. I think the price is too high considering that the frying pan (with more metal) is about 1/3 less expensive. This lid was $10 in 2007. |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: Get your cover and a Dutch Oven on the cheap Comments: I looked at it like this: The 7 Qt. Dutch Oven cover fits the 12" skillet. The 12" cover is $20.01 The 7 Qt. Dutch Oven w/Spiral Handle is $38.98 If I subtract what I'd spend for the 12" cover the D.O. only costs $18.97 more. That's a huge hunk of iron for a mere $18.97. I did the same thing by purchaseing the 5 Qt. D.O. because the cover fits my 10 1/4" skillet. Also, I found a brush that works well to clean the pans and lids Power Tip Dish & Glass Brush |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: Packing Comments: Worst packing I have ever seen from Amazon!!!!!! It's amazing the Lodge cast iron lids (10 and 12 inch) survived unbroken. I did have to "re-season" the lids to cover the scratches from all the banging around they did in shipping!!!! I was lucky... If you need lids, I would find another source to eliminate the potential headache of returning due to damage. Thanks Amazon. I have read other reviews concerning shipping on this product and thought it must be a fluke or just another pinhead review... not so!! |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: It's a great deal Comments: The Logic 12-inch pan seems to be a great deal to me because it is healthier to use than the no-stick pans. I grew up with my parents using that kind of pan, and so I was used to seeing it in use. I thought I was progressive using the modern cookware, however now that I have gone back to iron pans, I feel that I am now doing something even more progressive. It cooks hotter than my other pans, however I like the honest crispiness it gives to food. I am looking forward to using it in the future, and I am sure it will last my lifetime since I am now 66. I endorse it!! |
