Product Reviews: Epson Perfection 1670 Photo Scanner |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: Scanner is perfect when paired with Vuescan software Comments: This is easily1of the best scanners I have ever used. The color is great, however almost all of all, this scanner is quick. It gets the job done quicker than almost all scanners that are 4 years newer. When paired with Vuescan aftermarket software ([...]), I can make mutli-page PDFs with a single click and automate workflow, with calibrated color. almost all reviews here center around the bad driver/software interface - to be honest I have never found any "bundled" scanner software to be tolerable. The short hardware devlopement cycle never allows scanner makers to make any worthwhile mature software - if they can bump up the "dpi" numbers quickly, people will purchase the scanner no matter what software it comes with, even though the software is the almost all important part. Vuescan does not require drivers for the Epson, and gives you a single, decent interface, and works. So if this is a review of hardware, the Epson 1670 is1of the best out there, especially for $[...]. |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: Excellent Scanner Comments: I have owned this scanner for several years and it has been a pleasure to own and use it. It's quick, and colour rendition is accurate. Epson rules!! |
Rating: 1 (out of 5) Summary: OCR capabilities never operated, technical support hard to locate Comments: The Epson Perfection 1670 Photo scanner is used as a pleasure tool in my hobby, Genealogy and Family History. Although Epson claims that the 1670 will do OCR scanning I never could get it to work, unlike prevous scanners I have used. My attempts to contact Epson Technical help have been difficult, and when I did get an e-mail suggestion from Epson Connection, the answer did not in any way solve the problem. The previous reviews hit the operation exactly. This is a dawg!! |
Rating: 2 (out of 5) Summary: Disappointing Comments: After reading excellent reviews on cnet, I expected a much better product. The editing software was lacking, and using the scanner did slow down my computer. What I found almost all annoying though was that it doesn't have an on/off switch. I know I could have unplugged it when not in use, however then turning it back on, the computer did not acknowledge it, and then having to reboot slowed things down more. Finally, after about a year the scanning light burned out. I recently replaced it with the hp3180 all in1which was reasonably priced at amazon and came with the additional capabilities of printing and copying. |
Rating: 1 (out of 5) Summary: Oh Epson, how could you!! Comments: It amazes me how this scanner has not been dumped into the bottom of the ocean as yet. The color is awful, awful, awful; the scanned images have long ugly streaks; it's painfully slow; it's technologically jurassic - in1short sentence - it's pathetic!! So, fellow on-line purchaseers, you have been forewarned.
