Product Reviews:
Russell Hobbs 8 Qt. Stainless Programmable Pressure Cooker
Rating: 1 (out of 5)
Summary: Failed After 10 Cycles -- Avoid!!
Comments: I would have given this unit 4 or 5 stars, like many here, until recently. After about 10 meals cooked over a period of months, the unit croaked!!.Front controls would still light up, however the cooker would not heat.

I purchased this for the 8 Qt capacity, to complement my 6-quart Farberware electric pressure cooker that is like the Energizer bunny(R) -- it keeps going and going. however the Russel Hobbs 8 Qt? I'd say forget it.

Summary: Great Cooker
Comments: I can not believe all the bad reviews. I think it is just that anyone who has had the unit break, rates it poorly and we happy customers do not say anything. This is kind of like a crock pot, with an inner pot and an outter heating element with electronics. Since this is electronic, you can not bang it around and take the outter part with the electronics and run it under water.

Regardless, this thing is great!!!!!! If you've ever dealt with a stovetop pressure cooker, you will especially like it.

When I purchased mine, there were no other electronic pressure cookers. There are now at least 2 others, however they are 6 quart and 6.5 quarts. 8 quarts is the right size. It would be impossible to cook pot roasts, etc., in a 6 quart pressure cooker.

It allows you to brown the food prior to cooking. Best of all, you set it and leave it alone. You do not need to babysit it like a regular pressure cooker. Safety lockouts are nice as is the steam release knob.

The only thing is I wish it was available without Teflon/Silverstone coating. purchase it, it's the only way to go if you need a pressure cooker.

Summary: unbeatable
Comments: I got this for a birthday present4years ago, I LOVE IT!!!!. I use it nearly e day and can cook anything in it. I do not know what I'll do if anything happens to it. I can cook a whole chicken or turkey breast in 20 min. You can not beat that for a great meal in less time, for those of us who do not have much time to spare.

Summary: Not reliable
Comments: Wish I would have read the review. Worked great at 1st, then it would not hold the steam. My sister-in-law and I both had the same problem. Wish I wouldn't have wasted $250.00 on the studpid thing. They should run a recall on this expensive item!!!!!!

Summary: Great for Canning, too
Comments: I have used this as a canner for 3 years now, giving it a thorough workout in harvest season. Not a single problem. I do have it on an electrical outlet that is not being overloaded. I am at a loss to explain why many people had problems with it--obviously something in the electronics part. I wish the non-stick was thicker; it started to wear off during the 1st year, however is not a problem. Other than that, I endorse getting a spare gasket --I am replacing mine this year, however it's been going strong through 3 years of great, hard work. I do not endorse this item if you are doing large amounts of canning--quarts will not fit and if you've a lot of pints, well, use your regular canner for them. The 8-oz (1/2 pint) & 12-oz. jars fit well.
