Product Reviews: Aiwa HP-CN6 Noise-Canceling Over-the-Ear Headphones |
Rating: 3 (out of 5) Summary: They're really not bad and long lasting, however noise reduction, well .... Comments: These were hand-me downs from my brother-in-law who basically did not use them all that much, however I have to tell you, I have had them for about 3 years now and still work as they did new. We initially used these phones at the local track with a scanner and worked pretty well. Now that might not be saying a whole heck of a lot, however they were a big step up from the crappy, "ear buds" that come with the iPods.
With NR turned on, it basically sounds more like the music is being amplified more than cancel out the noise. They do a fair job of noise cancellation, if you want to call it that, however I have heard cheap jWin headphones for $30 do better. Regardless, they have little sound leakage which is nice when I am at the office or when I want to listen to some music in bed.
Since I have had them, the cheap padding ripped apart, however replaced them from a $5 Black Friday set of headphones I purchased that were terrible. Now they boast a nicer, more comfortable vinyl, pleathure type padding. My little custom job there.
Pros: Fold up to a nice compact, flat design that fits well in almost all laptop bags. Battery compartment on the arm versus the cord. Battery lasts quite a bit I'd say. Long lasting, may feel cheap, however lasted me a great long while. Excellent impedence of 20 Ohms ON/65 Ohms OFF, about as high as low as you can get. There are some Able Planets out there that are 15 Ohms, alalmost all unheard of. almost all are 40 to 300.
Cons: Weak noise cancelling at 10dB@300Hz, moreless amplifies the music. Ear pads cheap and will rip after several months. Sounds okay, 30Hz to 15KHz isn't exactly as great as a great quality set of at least 20Hz to 20KHz.
Summary: If you are looking at purchaseing NC headphones to cancel noise, then look somewhere else. however other than that, they sound decent, fold up nice, last a great long time and are much better than almost all "included" headphones/earbuds that come with almost all players. |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: Great!!!!!!!!!! Comments: These headphones have been useful. The only time they make a little hiss noise is when the battery is about to die. Other than that I would endorse these headphones. |
Rating: 4 (out of 5) Summary: Still a great purchase Comments: I have had my HP-CN6's for going on 3 years now. On plane trips they're great at sound reduction. It does indeed reduce ambient noise by 70%. I take the train to work eday which is noisy. My HP-CN6 reduces those sounds also by at least 60-70%. Now the bad news: They start hurting your ears after 1-2 hours of use since they clamp on your head tightly and the earpads are thin to start with. Once you get use to them, they're not that bad.
Recently wear and tear starting catching up to it after 3 years of heavy use. The Earpads starting to wear down and tear and the wire going into the phone jack is starting to come out (tape is holding it place now). So I starting looking for some new headphones at a similiar price and equal or better noise reduction qualities.
I tried the Sony Noise-Canceling Folding Headphones Model: MDRNC6 at around $46.00 and returned them a day after I brought them. They had poor noise reduction ability and poor sound quality as compared to my old HP-CN6's which was surprising and disappointing. I may try Sennheiser's next. So my search continues. Overall these headphones are solidly made and offers great noise reduction quality and indeed is worth the purchase.

Rating: 1 (out of 5) Summary: Aiwa Noise-Canceling Comments: Save your hard earned $$$
It's simple "it doesn't work" the best ones I have tried on were the Boss, however they're expensive. So I am still waitting on the price to come down. |
Rating: 1 (out of 5) Summary: great deal for people who like high frequency noise Comments: Ok,
I purchased these2or3months ago after a colleague told me that noise-cancelling headphones are nice when you are on the plane for hours and hours. He spend $299 for his. When this set was on sale for $15 I asked myself what can go wrong - especially when brand Aiwa is behind this.
Here are the reason why I do not like this set: - , annoying "high hiss" (see others people's reviews) - beside this extra noise I actually noticed only a little reduction of external noise; I tried it on the plane from California to Germany for I would say 2 min (couldn't stand the high hiss for longer), and also in an office with a desktop computer on; I am not sure if external noise is really reduced or ears now focus on high frequency noise. - it is not comfortable due to plastic top - with "high hiss" off, sound quality is like typical $5 headphones
Hope this helps.
