Product Reviews: Leatherman 830032 Blast Multitool with Leather Sheath |
Rating: 1 (out of 5) Summary: How quick Can You Break a Leatherman? Comments: This is a short review, because well, the tool lasted about5minutes. I took it out of the box and began looking at the various tools. Snap!! The locking mechanism just broke right there and then!! Are you kidding me? It will be returned for another try, however this is why I have lost faith in these companies. Never had any problems with my Gerber (except, which seems to be the case with many of these tools, the fact that it can be difficult to remove the other tools.) |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: Quality through and through Comments: This is a beautiful, useful, precision tool. I am an avid ocean boater, and I would never go to sea without my Leatherman. This particular model has possibly the almost all useful combination of blades and tools, including a ratcheted blade, which is invaluable for cutting seaweed kelp or tangled lines.
If you use the Leatherman in a salt-water environment, it is important to knock all of the salt off with a fresh-water (and soap) rinse. If you do this you will get years of service from your Leatherman. If you do not do this, you still will, however the blades will tighten up and become hard to unfold until you work them loose. Keep it clean.
This is a nice tool and it makes a great gift. |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: How did I live without one? Beautifully conceived and made. Comments: I used to think that Leathermen weren't worth the effort because I'd had a problem with the blades closing on me unexpectedly. The screwdriver blades especially can be a nuisance. however e blade on the Leatherman Blast locks, so that's not a problem.
I have been impressed by the spiffy sandblasted look of the blades and the solid feel overall. I had previously messed around with non-Leatherman knock-offs and did not see the point, however the real McCoy is different. The knife blades is sharp, something you do not often see.
I live on a farm and often have to walk long distances to fetch a single tool. The incidence of this has fallen off since I purchased my Leatherman Blast.
This particular Leatherman is quite large and is best used with a belt sheath. (I like the nylon sheath because it's a little less bulky than the leather one.) If you are going to keep it in your pocket, you probably want a smaller one.
I have been carrying a Swiss Army Knife since I was 11, however I have retired it in favor of my Leatherman.

Rating: 4 (out of 5) Summary: Seems to be a great replacement for my beloved original Leatherman Comments: I lost my original Leatherman after about 25 years. The huge range of current Leatherman products was alalmost all overwhelming. It took a while to identify the1that suited me best.
The new tool seems to be an improvement. It's a bit stiff to operate, however I expect that will change after more use. I hope the metalurgist made great choices; time will tell. The old1was quite satisfactory.
The case is snug; I hope it breaks in quicker than new boots. I think I'd prefer a synthetic fabric sheath, perhaps1made of nylon. |
