Comments: It's well built monopod I was told it was built like a minitank and it is it feels solid and the head that comes with it is ok however not optimal at least to me is not.
It would work better if you had the quick release head in my opinion so if I could do it again I would purchase this monopod separate and the Quick release head later |

Summary: Outstanding Value
Comments: I really like this monopod. It's a lot better than my last1which was a real cheapo that I lost at a concert. (great Riddance) If you are looking for a solid value, this monopod will deliver.
I have a 300mm with a 1.4 TC which is a bit heavy and this pod handles it perfectly. The locking mechanism on the tilt head really locks down my equipment and holds it in place. The locking height adjustments on the leg are built really well and should last a long time. If they should fail, it appears that they can be replaced easy. Not the case with el-cheapo junk.
The only drawback I can think of is the weight which really isn't an issue considering that this monopod doesn't cost ( less than $100) as much as some of the ultra-lightweight ones do. You can purchase this monopod with the tilt head, keep it awhile and upgrade to better head in the future and have a great rig with a minimal investment. |

Summary: Bogen-Manfrotto is the way to go!!
Comments: I initially purchased a cheap, lower quality monopod for $25 and let me tell you... I was not at all pleased with it. While it was compact, it was flimsy and1of the locking levers for the legs promptly snapped off, not to mention the fact that it did not have a swivel-tilt head, which made it difficult to use.
After reading the reviews on this Bogen-Manfrotto model, I decided to give it a try. I'd have to say that I agree with all of these positive reviews about the product. The only down-side to this product is that it is a tad longer than some cheaper models and a little heavier, however I can not deny that this thing is built tough!! The locking levers are beefy and really lock the sections tightly into position, when extended, with no worries of them slipping. They hold the sections so tight, you could even use this thing as a walking stick on a hiking trip, if you wanted to. The swivel-tilt head is big and solid, as well. The thumb-wheel for the camera screw (comes with both 1/4" and 3/8" size screws) is large, which makes it quick and easy to screw to the camera, as well as allowing you to really torque the camera down to the base. I have a Canon EOS XTI with a large 300mm lens and the swivel-tilt head held solid as a rock. I am sure you could use it with a larger / heavier camera with no problems.
I guess the moral of the story is that you get what you pay for. Sure, this is a little more expensive than some other models, however if you want a sturdy monopod that will last, this is a model you should really consider.

Comments: I ordered this to shoot indoor sports with a 70-200 f/2.8 zoom lens. It worked really well. The top section of the monopod is covered in some sturdy-feeling foam. Overall this item feels solid and performs well. Only dark cloud over my experience with is that the 1st thing I did was lose the wrist strap that came attached to it. It just fell off somewhere. Not great. |
