All-Clad 99009 Stainless-Steel 6-1/2-Quart Slow Cooker
Rating: 5 (out of 5)
Summary: Worth the money
Comments: I purchased the Williams Sonoma brand with the aluminum insert as a Christmas present for myself. I already own 3 slow cookers,14qt,15qt, and16qt, all of them different brands. I never noticed that all 3 of them on low setting is not a true low setting until I used my new All Clad. I now know what eone else was talking about. I made lentil soup and turkey stock both on low setting for 6-8 hours and my turkey stock came out clearer because it was on a true low setting. And my lentils were not mush, they held their shape. I prefer the 7qt size because I can freeze half of what is made. Even after we eat the other half, there is still enough for lunch the next day. I will be making my meat sauce for pasta tomorrow and knowing the low setting works correctly, I am sure it will turn out delicious. I also like that the lid is stainless steel, because if I drop it, it will not break. Also, I can put the lid and insert in the dishwasher and it comes out beautiful.

My only complaint was Williams Sonoma and the help they hire. I got the last1in the store that was a return from someone's Christmas present (still had tape and wrapping paper on it!!) and when I questioned if they had another1because I did not want1that might have been returned because of something being wrong with it, the sales clerk got sarcastic and said that they would not resale a broken item. For $279.00 I want to be treated a little better.

Summary: no complaints
Comments: This is not an inexpensive item however I decided to get it since I have been happy with all of All-Clad's other cookware. It is the only cooker I could find that has a metal rather than a silicone rim to the lid, it is huge so you can cook a small or large meal, and the insert is a ceramic dish with a lead-free glaze (I checked with the company). It is easy to use, and works perfectly well. With my 1st meal, I checked the internal temp of the roast, and it had reached and kept the suggested safe temp. The only draw back is1that seems to be a problem with all slow cookers or crock pots; the external skirt is not insulated so much heat is radiated outwards instead of inwards. This seems counter-intuitive to me. However, it doesn't affect the performance, it just wastes power. This is a great purchase however this is my 1st slow cooker so I cannot compare to any other highly rated one.

Summary: Defective control howevertons
Comments: I purchased my All-Clad Slow Cooker in September of 2007. I was pleased with it and at that time felt it was worth the money. I used it through the winter months, then did not use it again until this fall(2008). When I tried to turn it on, the digital read out would not fully come on. I feared it was shorting out however after about 10 minutes, it began to function. Unfortunately, the next time I tried, it would not turn on at all. I have passed the 1 year warranty time period however will try to call customer service after the Thanksgiving holidays. I am not sure if they will help me and I feel for the cost of the cooker,1year of use is unfair.

Summary: Wish the lid fit better & Ceramic insert wasn't warped
Comments: I purchased my All Clad slow cooker to match the rest of my All Clad cookware (MC2). The point of my review is that I wish that the insert was not warped, which causes the lid to fit incorrectly. Actually when the lid is placed on a flat surface you can see where it too is warped. I noticed both of these defects before even attempting to use the cooker once. Perhaps I simply got a bum cooker?

Not the quality I expected from All Clad (this1is made in China) however I am still willing to get them another chance and plan to purchase the nicer1from Williams-Sonoma for a bit more money.

Summary: Expensive however beautiful!!
Comments: I have had a few "slow cookers" in the past, however frankly seldom used them and ultimately ended up getting rid of them because they were either too small for large meals (and leftovers----the almost all important benefit of this type of cooking!!) and also because they were so often unattractive. Shallow you are saying? Well it's no longer a concern. This cooker is beautiful when it's on the counter, it works fantastically well and the controls are easy to operate and understand. My only complaint is that when1spends this amount of $$ on a slow cooker that there is really no excuse for not being able to put the insert directly on the stove top for browning......To have to spend additional $$ on top of this already hefty price is crazy. So far I have made terrific meals from Chili to Chicken to stews... all w/ no recipes just my own "whatever is on hand" approach and ething has been great. It's easy to clean and maintain as well.
