Comments: I have to agree with another reviewer here. almost all of the articles pertain to topics that can be found elsewhere: home fashions, entertaining (fat-rich food and LOTS of it!!), pop culture, sex, etc. The magazine's primary purpose seems to be nothing more than make money from the bear community. Heck, more ink is spent on the announcement of bear runs, and bear porn, than anything else. Articles are much too short; by the time you are done, you realize that all those words were void of any meaningful information.
Even the health column is somewhat laughable: it discusses various ailments however never does it mention that almost all could be avoided by simply losing weight. |

Comments: Overall, a pretty vapid and mindless publication. Its amazing how you just stick BEAR on something and people will purchase it. You could get a lot of this stuff from Ladies Home Journal and other magazines. |

Summary: A much needed publication
Comments: I have been a subscriber since the second issue in 2005. With the Bear community being a minority within a minority, it's hard to find any sort of media with which to relate to. ABL isn't the 1st magazine for Bear men, however it is the 1st non-pornographic, lifestyle magazine. The articles are geared toward the masculine gay man, however I have had straight friends and female friends both enjoy the articles about caring for pets, throwing a great house party, etc. ABL is a must for any member of the Bear community and worth a read for anyone with a mind open to learning about a side of the gay community that not eone is familiar with. |
