Product Reviews: Sony RDR-VXD655 VHS DVD Recorder Combo with Built In HD Tuner |
Rating: 4 (out of 5) Summary: Instructions? Who wrote this stuff? Comments: With the switch to all digital tv, I wanted a device to record both dvds and tapes and also a built in tuner to receive the hd programming. I did a lot of Google searching of different products and decided that the Sony seemed to be the best deal for what I wanted. What I did not know was how convoluted and clumsy the instructions were especially for the dvd recording procedure. The vcr parts were pretty straightforward, however the dvd procedures were scattered all over the manual and too often footnoted in ways that seem unnecessary. So, in the course of trying (and I am still trying) to figure it all out, count on wasting a few disc's as you worm your way through these unnecessarily sometimes unclear and scattered instructions for dvd recording. On the whole, the results of the picture/sound quality of the recordings are great. I wish I could say the same about the instruction manual. |
Rating: 4 (out of 5) Summary: Sony dual recorder Comments: happy with the video and audio it was a great improvement over my 18 month old cheap one. The on screen display is great it just takes a while to load up. I am happy!! |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: Nice product Comments: This is a great recorder that eliminates the need for a DTV converter when the switch to digital occurs. Simple enough that my ole' world parents can use the basic functions, yet enough bells and whistles, that you can author a nice simple DVD w/ previews and a customized menu of contained episodes or shows. |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: DVD-R/VCR/HD Tuner Combo Comments: I purchased this product for 3 reasons: 1)DVD recorder, 2)HD Tuner and 3)it's a Sony. This product has met and exceeded my expectations. Right out of the box it's been an excellent product. It immediately found all the HD and analog stations in my area with just the rabbit ear antenna on my tv. I have already recorded with the VCR and dubbing from VHS tape to DVD and the picture and sound quality are wonderful. Ething plugs into this box: the satellite dish, the stereo receiver and even my 6-disk CD/DVD changer. This is important, especially for the older tv's that do not have many input and output options in the back.
If I have to find any drawbacks it would have to be ease of use. You have to read the owners manual carefully!! This is a complicated machine and you have to follow the steps carefully for results. Anyone who is intimidated by this sort of technology may want to do more homework with other like products in case there is an easier to use one. However, once you read and follow the steps in the manual you will be pleased with the results. |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: Great Digital DVD-VCR Combo Comments: I purchased this unit as a replacement for our analog Sony DVD-VCR combo, and all of its functions have worked flawlessly. We receive over-the-air digital TV signals, and the automatic set-up took only a few minutes. With our 30-year-old rooftop antenna, the tuner picks up not only the local stations however also those from a city 45 miles away. I have played and recorded both DVDs (using DVD+RW) and VHS tapes, and ething has worked without a hitch. The picture quality, using our Sony HD TV and an HDMI connection, is great. The menus and manual are easy to understand. Amazon delivered the unit promptly and in perfect condition. |
