HP Photosmart R937 8MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom
Rating: 1 (out of 5)
Summary: Horrible camera
Comments: This has got to be the worse camera I have ever used. I have given it a year of use and I am sorry to say that in all of 2008 I do not have1great photo that was taken indoors. All are grainy, red eye/glo eye, and tons of white spots on e photo. I threw the camera in the trash tonight after veiwing my x-mas photos.

I also have never been able to download the photos from the camera had to use a USB card reader to tranfer them.

I wasted a whole year of photos that I will never be able to replace. I would never endorse this to anyone.I have had it with HP--

Summary: great, easy, point and shoot
Comments: I have had this camera for about 14 months now. I carried it around in my jeans pocket for an entire year. The camera is durable. I dropped it a few times and have had it bang into all kinds of stuff while in my pocket. After 12 months the plastic piece that holds the battery broke and the battery would push its door open. I found that if I bent the door a little (it has a metal hinge) then it wouldn't be forced open by the battery. I figured that after the wear and tear I put the camera through, that was a reasonable breakage.
The1complaint I have is the software for connecting to a PC. It doesn't really work. The easiest thing is to not bother with it. Just pull out the memory card and put it in your computer (or get a usb card reader if your computer doesn't have a built in one). That will take just a min or2to get all the photos from your camera to the computer. Then just put the card back in the camera and its great to go.
The picture quality is great. The camera does have trouble in low light if you do not use a flash. however that is pretty typical of point and shoot camera. Pictures from this camera seem to have more than average red eye, however that never bothered me.
The big selling point for me was the internal lens. When you focus, it adjusts inside the camera instead of extending out. This way if the camera gets turned on in your pocket or purse the lens will not get damaged because it stays inside the camera.
I also love the touch screen. All cameras should have a UI like this one. So much easier to use and figure out. I endorse this camera.

Summary: LOTS of problems with this camera!!
Comments: I also wanted to like this camera - and really like the touch screen and features. However, I have had multiple problems and I have now gone through 2 cameras.

1) The cheap plastic thing inside the camera holding the battery in place broke - and then the battery would push the door open and pop out (I held it together with a rubber band). HP replaced the whole camera when I called this in. However, the second camera DID THE SAME THING, although fortunately, the door stays closed on the second one.

2) Linking with my computer and downloading pictures has never properly worked - with neither camera that I have had. We have windows software and you would think it would be easy, however the supplied program locks up and I am not able to use it. I can utilize another program to get pictures, however I cannot download any movies that I take. We have a Sony camera as well and we have no issues with downloads, so I know that it is with this camera and not our computer.

3) The camera also freezes on me and the on/off howeverton gets frozen (the only solution to this is to briefly remove the battery!!)

4) I am done with this camera now - after 1 year of use, I am replacing it with a Canon. I would not suggest purchaseing this one.

Summary: Top-notch vendor and product
Comments: The HP R937 digital camera from Beach Camera is probably HP's best, feature-packed, sleek, and powerful offering. Its 8.0 MB picture sample is superb for ething from simple snapshots to more ambitious compositions, and the camera'sbuilt in "design gallery" temps the user with special effects, touch-up, pet and red-eye reduction, and in-camera panoramic creation and stitching--more than any other camera in this price range can do. The 3.6" touch screen (the whole back of the camera!!) doubles as a viewing screen and a menu/settings system. Simply put: the best!! Beach Camera and I amazon make for a dependable, secure, speedy purchase as well.

Summary: Really Wanted to Love It
Comments: I tell you I really wanted to love this camera. I think the touch screen and huge LCD are great innovations and make this camera fun and easy to use. If all you are taking are pictures out on a sunny day, then this IS a great camera. However, any type of inside shot or low light shots are awful. A little noise is bearable. However, there is so much noise in low light pictures using the R937, that even the best editing software can not do much to improve the shots. Also, in my experience, the pet-eye reduction had no impact at all in shots of our dog. The red-eye reduction feature on the camera works well, and that is great because you are going to need it!! The placement of the flash immediately above the lens was a design mistake in my opinion, because it washes out many of what would otherwise be a great picture.

Again, if this camera is mainly for outdoor shots at the beach, you will be happy with the results. If not, steer clear and purchase something else.
