Summary: Great product

We have ours for alalmost all 5 years and can not complain about it. It has been used heavy and still runs like new. It is user friendly and balanced much better than the Toro model we own, the Leaf Hogs power is greater than the Toro also, when they are supposed to be equal in.
I will purchase another Leaf Hog when ours can no longer hold up, however I do not see that anytime soon.

Summary: motor burns out

We have had 2 of these (from Lowe's), used primarily for vacuuming. Works pretty well on leaves and grass, however will not pick up acorns. Major complaint is that the motor burned out in about a year each time. I am planning to purchase a Toro 51599 instead.

Overheated with 1st use, even using a heavy duty cord. The sad thing is, it's not worth bothering to send it back(to the manufacturer).

I purchased my LeafHog this summer from a department store in Annapolis, and its engine failed within 5 minutes of operation. After checking that I was using the correct voltage from the outlet and line, and making sure that there were no other factors, I called B&D. It took about an hour of arguing with a Black & Decker operator and a week of waiting to receive a replacement (this is the BV4000 Type 4 I own, not the Type 1 with the recall). The LeafHog I was sent was obvious used, with scuff marks all over the engine housing and extension pieces, with a bag that did not fit the model supplied (great thing I still had the 1st bag!!). This1died after about 20 minutes of mulching dry, loose leaves and straw. It began smoking from the engine, losing horsepower and suction, and then stopping rapidly.

Black and Decker does not have a way to submit complaints easily, however it is clear that they are not committed to making quality yard equipment that stands up to their advertisements. I will not use B&D blowers, mulchers or trimmers again in the future after this experience. I STRONGLY advise against purchasing a LeafHog!!

purchased this brand new from Lowes. After 10 minutes of use right out of the box it started emitting an electrical burning smell and also lost a lot of power. You can see sparks flying. This is dangerous. It's a great way to burn your house down or cause you to get electrocuted. I would give zero stars and endorse that you stay away.
