    Product Description:

Connect your USB-equipped desktop or notebook computer to a wireless network at incredible speeds with the Linksys Compact Wireless-G USB Adapter. By incorporating USB 2.0 and Wireless-G the Adapter delivers data rates up to 54Mbps (5 times as quick as 802.11b), without the trouble of opening up the case of your desktop computer. To install, simply plug the Adapter into any available USB port. (It's compatible with both USB 1.1 and 2.0 ports, however 2.0 will yield the quickest speeds.) You can plug it directly into your PC, or use the included USB extension cord to put the Adapter anywhere you'd like, up to5feet away. It gets its power through the USB connection, so no power cord is necessary. The included Setup Wizard walks you through configuring the Adapter to your wireless network settings, step by step. The Compact Wireless-G USB Adapter is also compatible with the Wireless-B (802.11b) network standard, with data rates up to 11Mbps. Your wireless communications can be protected by industrial-strength WPA and 128-bit encryption, so your data stays secure.

Summary: Terrible Adapter and Customer Service
    Rating: 1 out of 5   Date: 2009-02-22
Do not purchase this adapter!! I was constantly losing the signal and after hours on the phone with customer service there was no change. After calls3and4I was told I if the adapter continues to lose connection Linlsys would replace it. I continued to have the same issues and Linksys refused to replace the adapter. Finally I just threw it away along with the money I spent on it.

Two words come to mind, " pleased " . This is the 2'nd1I have purchased as I needed to have a third computer online. We now have 1 wired and 2 in remote places in the house. It is far better than having wires strewn ewhere and performs flawlessly. If you have teenagers who need a computer connection for homework and such , this is far better than paying the cable co. or telephone people to come and add another line. Combine it with your cable modem or a WRT54G router and you are in business.

    Summary: Overrated bad product
    Rating: 1 out of 5   Date: 2009-02-01
I purchased this for my desktop with Windows 2000. did not do much research before, however simply purchased it because of many relatively great reviews here at Amazon. After getting it installed, it could detect my wireless network however it couldn't connect to the internet. There was this error message stating that it has connected to the access point however cannot connect to the internet. After wasting countless hours and days of troubleshooting attempt (apparently, there are many who are in the same boat with me out there...), I finally gave up and returned this item to Amazon.

I ended up purchasing another item, which is the D-Link Wireless G USB 2.0 Adapter 802.11g, 54Mbps (D-Link Wireless G USB 2.0 Adapter 802.11g, 54Mbps). This D-Link WUA-1340 got me connected to the Internet in less than 5 minutes; it was honestly a plug-and-play experience (which is how it's supposed to be for any USB wireless adapter product...)
