Raw and Truthful Scenes from a Marriage

Pros: Erland Josephson, Liv Ullman, extended material in the TV series as opposed to theatrical version.

Cons: Not a rosy portrait of relationships, obviously.

The Bottom Line: The movie, like this review, is long and will try your patience, but it's definitely worthy.

Tour de force from Bergman

Pros: Perfect script, unbelievably good acting, no frills drama of a crumbling marriage

Cons: The movie is searing. You will feel emotionally drained for a while.

The Bottom Line: Few movies go this deep into exploring ANYTHING. It is painful and haunting, but so is King Lear, or Hamlet. And it's practically that good.
