Pros: price, decent guide numbers Call the corporate office, not tech service. It helped me.
Cons: Unreliable, prone to early death , uncertain sync, manual zoom, does NOT TTL meter correctly.
The Bottom Line: This photographer will steer clear of Vivitar flashes from now on!

A lot of flash for the money.

Pros: Durable, inexpensive. 137 foot GN at ISO 100. Many accessories. Simple controls.
Cons: Emits loud whistling noise. Odd PC cable.
The Bottom Line: The Vivitar 283 , easy to find on the secondary market is a good flash given its price. Some will miss modern pushbutton features, others will like the simplicity.

Pros: Powerful Cheaply obtainable
Cons: Plastic foot Proprietary PC cord

Pros: nice, cheap, powerful manual flash
Cons: clunky, non-intuitive manual controls with no pan feature
The Bottom Line: A good cheap slave flash if on the budget, otherwise pass and get something better, you'll thank yourself in the long run.
