The Bottom Line: Every house ought to have at least one maglite, even if your oven does have a light.

Pros: terrific candlepower: great quality: heavy-duty: spare bulb: water resistant: flood to spot
Cons: heavy weight is occasionally annoying: does not float: shock resistant, but bulbs pop easily
The Bottom Line: A great flashlight. With new 'white star' bulbs, Maglite is still a great choice for anyone when it comes to a heavy duty spot to flood light.

For Almost Any Situation: Maglite 3 D cell

Pros: Reliable, durable, bright, and they can hurt.
Cons: Too heavy for backpacking, not indestructible.
The Bottom Line: This is a great brand and the 3 D cell is probably the best for the average user. It is bright enough for every day tasks and not too unwieldy.

Pros: Bright and hardy light for the money, upgradeable and dependable
Cons: The reflector should be orange peeled or faceted to remove dark spots in beam.
The Bottom Line: Highly recommended, best compromise of high output and weight the average joe can afford. Upgradeable for battery life or brightness.
