Affordable telephoto lens for 35mm or crop body DSLR cameras
by aloofyouth, Dec 18, 2008
Pros: High quality, cheap price
Cons: Not great in low light, difficult to hold for long periods
The Bottom Line: Unless you shoot a lot of moving subjects in low light, this may be the only telephoto lens you ever need. Long enough focal length even for casual birdwatchers!
Review: I tested on a crop-frame D90 camera. My review is for crop-frame Nikon DSLRs only, such as the D3000 ...

by khaled-alsibai, Jan 27, 2008
Pros: Price, Quality, VR, all over is a good deal
Cons: 4.5-5.6 is slow for wild photography and fast shots.

Another good Nikon lens
by rbr28, Nov 12, 2007
Pros: VR, image quality, cost compared to faster lenses or bigger zooms.
Cons: f/5.6 at 300mm is limiting.
The Bottom Line: One of the best options for a first lens, if you need the reach.
Review: I have this lens attached to a Nikon D80. The lens is by far, my most used lens and I have been very ...

by sailingshot, Dec 13, 2006
Pros: Optical and VR technology that used to cost much more!
Cons: Still slow glass, not pro build quality.
The Bottom Line: Another excellent tool for your serious kit, and great for the casual shooter as well!

Not worth the money at all
by sailingshot, Dec 4, 2006
Pros: Better built than other 70-300 models at the moment.
Cons: Silly price for what you get. NO macro mode.
The Bottom Line: If you must have 300mm, buy the Sigma version. If 200mm will do, the Nikon 28-200G is a gem for 300.00.
Review: Okay....there are now three Nikon lenses that are 70-300. The least expensive version is the G type ...

Pros: Inexpensive, wide range of focal lengths, good performance for the money.

Bang for the buck!
by uniq, Oct 27, 2005
Pros: extreme optical quality, excellent construction, includes case and integrated lens hood
Cons: excellent price point vs its bigger brother the F/2.8...but still expensive. Lens collar
The Bottom Line: It may be an F/4 but you save $4000! and get awesome performance. It works fantastically well with Nikon teleconverters.
Review: The second you start looking at telephoto lenses longer than about 200mm you will start to see a HU ...

Pros: Excellent resolution and contrast. Robust design but with a relatively light construction.
Cons: Tough enough for hobby use, but probably not robust enough for professional use.

Didn't expect a lot, but got even less
by pringlw, Jan 16, 2005
Pros: Light, inexpensive, relatively small
Cons: Very poor AF (constantly hunts), lots of chromatic aberration
The Bottom Line: This lens let me down. The images are not what you would expect from a ED glass and the autofocus system is poor.
Review: I read a ton of reviews before I picked up this lens and one thing is clear. Nobody agrees about how ...
